Whole Latte Vente...

...going on!

The house elves are not idle. We stopped by Sunday afternoon and initially it did not seem that much had been done since our last visit (about mid-week). The view in the picture below is from the rear of the house and the vents cannot be seen from the front where we pulled up (though we couldn't miss the chimneys). But when we walked into the house and looked up... wow! Almost the entire "attic" space was taken up with ducting, vent pipes, and two large air-conditioning blowers, one at each end of the house. I certainly hope they are not as noisy as their size would imply.

This is the fireplace unit installed in the family room. It will look a little larger when finished because it will have a hearth and a stone surround. We thought about a large, stone, walk-in fireplace but decided we had to draw the line somewhere and I wasn't letting Donna bring her cauldron from Corona anyway. We will miss it though when we want to roast a pig at Christmas.

Here is an identical unit installed in the master bedroom.

These are the chimneys for the two fireplaces with their stylish spark-arresters on top.

The plumber called today with a question about how we wanted a fixture placed. Donna said that as she talked to him it sounded like an army of people hammering in the background. I don't know, could have been a sound-effects tape.

I don't know - the walk-in stone fireplace would have been pretty cool... You do seem to have a lot of vents - normal??? Is this because it gets so hot up there? Or do all houses have that many and I've just never noticed?

It seems to be more vents than other homes in the area (a sign of quality I hope) but I am sure it is because of the temperature extremes in the high desert. Compared to the L.A. Basin, anyway.

"...a large, stone, walk-in fireplace..."??? Why am I thinking Auschwitz?

We don't have vents like that, and it's hotter here, so I don't think that's the issue. It's interesting. I wonder if it has to do with furnaces and getting enough air? What kind of cooling do you have? Are you using heat pumps?

Oh... I almost forgot!

It's really coming along nicely! How much snow will you see in the hills/mountains around you? I can't wait to ride my bike in the bike park we make in your back yard. I am bringing a Bobcat to make some gnarly jumps... dude.

Bruce,

"...a large, stone, walk-in fireplace..." think Hogwarts, or Camelot.

The blowers for the heat and air conditioning are up in the attic spaces, so maybe that's it.

How much snow will we see in the hills? How about in the back yard?! Neighbors tell us last year at Thanksgiving they were snowed in for three days!

Coooooool! I want to live in the snow. I don't know if I miss the snow that we had as children, or if I am just tired of the summer here in Phoenix. Well, when I say "here in Phoenix" I am not being completely honest, because right now we are "here in Austin", visiting Jessica and going to the Austin City Limits Festival.

Ummm... Austin? Texas? Is that the place to be right now? Is Rita dropping any moisture on you?

Yes, Austin, TX.

I don't know if it's THE place to be. We spent much of the day at the festival, and it was hot, humid and DUSTY. They should have watered the grounds prior to the festival.

No moisture, but I hope it rains tomorrow so it's a little cooler for us. We'll be there from noon until 10:00pm. Coldplay is the last band to play.

Hi Rhonda!

I have, actually, been up to take pictures this past Tuesday and over the weekend before that. I am just late in posting.

Donna just called me to say that you called her and told her about the roof. I am going to put up the pictures I have and then Duchess and I will be out to take more.

Thanks.
